Conveyor Considerations

6 Weeks Until MODEX 2018

During MODEX 2018 in Atlanta, April 9 – 12, there are many conveyor manufacturers exhibiting. This year at MODEX there will be dozens of manufacturers claiming to have the perfect automated product movement solution.

While many in the material handling sector consider conveyance technology a commodity, it is a false assertion. Conveyor solutions are developed from dynamic and complex challenges requiring safe, ergonomic, tested, and proven products. This solution-finding approach can only be developed by creative lean manufacturing and continuous process improvement experts.

It is far greater than simply manufacturing a good conveyor; it requires best practices to ensure that each critical element works seamlessly. Alfacon Solutions has perfected these interdisciplinary elements for companies throughout Canada and the United States, from major parcel delivery companies to small ecommerce family-owned businesses.

Lean Manufacturing and Conveyors

Lean manufacturing offers a value proposition by eliminating waste and preserving value. The phrase continuous process improvement is linked to lean manufacturing. It is just that, never-ending and always evolving.

Manufacturing and engineering operations management at Alfacon Solutions uses all elements of lean manufacturing as a core value toward improved efficiency, throughput, and cost-saving to customers.

Fulfilling customers’ needs requires the integration of all technologies with the proper controls and applications. Through the vetting and verification of superb integration partners, Alfacon Solutions has created centers of excellence with knowledgeable materials handling experts.

Alfacon Solutions is one of the few conveyor manufacturers with an internal testing system at the new manufacturing facility located just 30 minutes from Toronto Pearson International Airport. It allows customers and integration partners to fully test products prior to implementation.

At MODEX, attendees should be warned: Buyer Beware! Conveyor companies at the event must go beyond selling equipment and listen; then, in a quasi-kaizen event mode, explain how the right conveyor system solution will improve the current methodology.

Value Stream Mapping

To know where a company wants to take a conveying lean manufacturing organization, it starts with understanding the current state. Only then can the future state be considered, designed, and made most impactful.

Alfacon Solutions (https://alfaconsolutions.com) will be exhibiting at MODEX 2018 April 9-12, 2018 in Atlanta, GA at booth #B637 and presenting an educational seminar called Adaptive Conveying on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 12:00 PM – 12:45 PM in Theater I. The presentation will provide attendees an overview of a configurable conveying solution and how to integrate conveying solutions into automated vehicles.
