Conveyor Considerations

Conveyor Considerations

5 Weeks Until MODEX 2018

During MODEX 2018 in Atlanta, April 9 – 12, there are many conveyor manufacturers exhibiting. Most of the conveyor exhibitors will be selling off-the-shelf solutions. They simply lack the engineering expertise to offer design services. Engineers develop designs in 3-D to help identify interaction points, clearances, and obstructions before a conveyor is installed at a manufacturing plant, distribution center, or warehouse. The 3-D designs can be turned into renderings and animations which provide a great perspective on how the different systems will fit and operate in a customer’s facility.

System design process

After project planning is complete, the Alfacon Solutions’ team works with customers for system design and layout. This phase allows engineers to design alternate system layouts based on parameters created in the planning phase. It also determines a final layout and equipment selection based on labor modeling, operational and systems definition, allotted budget, and projected return on investment (ROI).

Finally, the teams validate the final system layout and equipment selection with computer simulation models to guarantee the system will work optimally as well as meet all requirements.

At MODEX, many of the conveyor companies must outsource supplier sourcing for system design. Those functions can be handled internally at Alfacon Solutions to identify suppliers capable of providing system components based on the budget, timeframe, and design parameters.

The ability to formulate and manage RFPs (request for proposals) saves time and ensures detailed and accurate proposals.

Benefits of conveyor system design

A quality system design begins with asking the right questions and generating a reduction in order to fulfillment cycle time. This proper design calculation results in increased productivity of labor by having work available during entire shifts; increased throughput is achieved while simultaneously reducing operational costs and labor.

Because these solutions are ergonomically designed with safety in mind, there is a reduction in workers’ comp claims. Floor space is made available through vertical design elements, and modular, scalable solutions drive exceptional throughput.

Alfacon Solutions ( will be exhibiting at MODEX 2018 April 9-12, 2018 in Atlanta, GA at booth #B637 and presenting an educational seminar called Adaptive Conveying on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 12:00 PM – 12:45 PM in Theater I. The presentation will provide attendees an overview of a configurable conveying solution and how to integrate conveying solutions into automated vehicles.
