Conveyor Considerations

4 Weeks Until MODEX 2018

During MODEX 2018 in Atlanta, April 9 – 12, there are many conveyor manufacturers exhibiting. Whether B-2-B, B-2-C, many of the 30,000+ attendees will be looking for new conveyor systems. In the Amazon-age many are seeking engineer-to-order (ETO) conveying in a direct to customer order fulfillment operation. More ecommerce operations managers will be at MODEX 2018 than any other MHI event held previously.

Conveyor systems are usually needed to move products to the right place, at the right time, safely, and damage-free. The drive to reduce costs and increase efficiency has been aligned with the functional demand to get this done in an operational facility without any interference in day-to-day business. Materials must to flow correctly, flow quickly, and sort accurately. A real and provable ROI is mandated; Alfacon Solutions’ customizable conveyors ensure a partner with the experience to help before, during, and after deployment. Whether conveying pallets, totes, cartons, bottles, or components, continuous process improvement is the hallmark of Alfacon Solutions on display at Booth B637 at MODEX 2018.

There is much to consider when selecting a conveyor solution. The best structural conveyor configuration depends on the distribution center and/or manufacturing application. Conveyors can go straight, curve, or go up or down as needed. Alfacon Solutions’ team has unique experiences in the customized solutions of conveyors and understand the design process and visualize the final result. Whether at MODEX 2018 or at a customer site, Alfacon takes customers through each step of the design and specification process.

Size is a critical factor to consider when selecting a conveyor; too many vendors try to sell pre-made systems built to their specifications. Nearly 90 percent of Alfacon Solutions’ customers require custom built conveyors to order. This ensures the exact dimensions needed to best transport product.

After figuring out environment, size, and speed, the conveyor must now move, and the motor selected must have enough power to move the conveyor as well as the anticipated weight of the products.
